SBID pioneered engagement between universities and industry in the UK in its founding year chosen among three design professional bodies by Interior Educators (a group of University course leaders representing the nations Interior Design Course content) with a Memorandum of Understanding. Until that time education and employment had not engaged in the sector of interior design.
SBID went on to assess national interior design course content for suitability to the corporate environment to present to the Minister of Universities and was approved to assess content suitability for practice. It remains the unique design body with this credential, owning the intellectual property and copyright of assessment criteria. Ten years on, it had directly united with 97 British universities across the UK whose students had engaged in at least one SBID Education Programme in 2018. A long-standing Memorandum of Understanding with a variety of international universities and interior design in practice for the UK had thrived before SBID was incorporated and paved the way for the route to international collaboration of knowledge-share and international student learning.
By 2019 each regional location was approved to recognise a?Centre of Excellence?and collectively, these locations represent a diverse offer of courses at varying levels of expertise to provide education and training for everyone regardless of personal limitations or learning ability.
