The Society of British Interior Designers (SBID) has always looked to the future, particularly in matters of corporate social responsibility (accountability to employees, the public, stakeholders and ethical trading), climate change and the built environment; the cities, villages and places where we reside and work. As a forward-facing body, we must research and invest in the science and technology to protect the environment we live in over the next fifty years.

As part of our mission to improve the built environment, we are proud to work with UK charities that support injured or sick servicemen and women and the families of those who have lost their lives protecting our great country. SBID has supported the Haig Housing Trust,?Help For Heroes and currently, The Armed Forces Covenant and The RAF Benevolent Fund through the late SBID Ambassador; Robin Gibb CBE of the Bee Gees and Jim Dooley of The Dooleys for the Bomber Command Memorial.

We consult with Her Majesty’s armed forces to assist with life challenges our war heroes will endure whilst protecting the freedom of our great country. This includes helping to adjust housing to the many challenges of day-to-day life for those who have been immobilised through combat. Improvements in legislation for disability or building control regulation can be achieved when designers review real problems faced by real people. SBID, along with our industry partners, manufactures and designers provide solutions for those living with disabilities. Case studies we build, will in turn improve delivery for all; manufacturers in their design, designers in their specification and end-users in functionality experience. To achieve this, with our partners we created a variety of specialist skills and functions within SBID Councils. These experts assist in the development of the design industry.
