In order to meet our strategic objectives to support members, SBID define clear goals to continue our wider mission of title recognition for the interior design industry, whilst acting in the public interest and maintaining public confidence in interior design by promoting our professional and ethical standards. The decisions made by designers in practice impact on the built environment and all industry stakeholders, therefore the protection of consumers is paramount to SBID’s long-term vision.
Discover how our world leading sector is helping Britain thrive in its global role and acting as a vital employer, enabler and investor in regions across the UK. We encouraged our members to engage in our events and councils. We connected with industry through designers, manufacturing and governments to influence interior designers in 71 countries.
Founded with Trustees and a clunky governance system in 2009 it quickly became apparent that the system was too restrictive for a forward-facing body. The Board unanimously agreed to amend processes, retaining membership rights but providing the nimbleness required to make swift, measured and well-advised decisions.
In 2013 an independent secretariat was created. The Executive Board is SBID’s governing body. The Board is responsible for oversight of SBID activities, it agrees strategy, budgets and policies. It delegates general operating authority ?to staff, councils and committees. It’s members set standards to protect the wider public through our innovative and pioneering strategies. It represents the wider effects and impact of both good and bad design on communities, countries, business and individual wellbeing.
