              SBID deliver trading standards to maintain, support and promote professional practice of Interior Design for public protection, trust and confidence

              The SBID’s members represent both commercial and residential sectors. Promoting best practice and competence of the interior design profession in the United Kingdom and around the world. The standards we create provide a route for professionals and trainees to improve career prospects and improve visibility by creating links between emerging talent and the interior design industry.

              Representing British Design globally

              SBID is active in 71 countries and is represented across the world through our members, partnerships and the promotion of British design and product supply. It also has ten regional offices and a franchise in Ukraine.

              Not only are SBID the representative for British interior design to the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA), we are also the selected representative and industry-specific organisation for UK interior design linked with the Genesis Initiative led by Patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent which is supported by Parliamentarians across the House of Lords and Commons.

              Celebrating design excellence

              Once a year, SBID also hosts an event at the House of Lords as part of it’s global Awards programme to celebrate and represent British design alongside international guests and influential top-tier professionals.

              Guiding the next generation of Interior Designers

              SBID Vanessa Brady

              SBID are the professional body accredited by the Minister of Universities 2012 and Department of Education to independently accredit a university degree course in interior design as fit-for-purpose, ensuring graduates are adequately prepared for the commercial environment.

              In 2015, SBID was listed as an official accrediting body of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) under the Key Information Set (now known as Unistats Dataset) for interior design. Creating and owning the IP to the first course accreditation programme for ‘Recognised’ and ‘Accredited’ degree courses with a strapline, ‘from learning to earning’. In the same year, SBID created 5 modules for interior design BA and MA degree courses registered with HESA.

              Influencing and shaping industry change

              SBID takes a lobbying role with UK Government on protection for rights holders and as a contributor to the Genesis Initiative, meet with the Greater London Agency of the Bank of England to discuss economic and business conditions affecting the SME sector; the National Senate for the UK SME Sector was formed to improve the quality of the debate on SMEs and create economic reform.

              Since its inauguration in 2009, SBID has achieved a position of authority for professional UK interior design governance and growth, advising and promoting professional standards and business guidelines for interior design. The outcome has encouraged and enabled growth which generated a variety of trade agreements in the UK and around the world.*
